HOW TO GET THE SERVICE FOR YOURSELF

  • Ring MACS on 664000 & ask to speak to the duty referrals officer
  • The referrals' officer will take your details.
  • They will ask you questions to assess whether MACS is the right organisation to help, and the urgency of your need.
  • Alternatively you can write to macs-plus or email. You will be contacted back by telephone, letter or email. You may be asked to provide more information, or you may be offered an appointment.
  • If you have requirements about how we contact you, please try to specify. For example, “hard of hearing please do not telephone,” or tell us if you would require a home visit instead of an appointment in our office.
  • We will provide you with an initial free interview to explain the services available.

When we accept a referral

  • Following a referral to macs-plus we will arrange a FREE appointment either at the MACS office, at home or in another place (for example a day-centre or solicitors’ office). A macs-plus representative will explain at the meeting what macs-plus can offer and what the cost of the service is likely to be. We will also explore whether the same service could be accessed for free under one of MACS funded contracts.
  • Any charges for work will be explained and agreed with you beforehand. You will be free to cancel the service at any time.
  • If you decide to take up the service, we could either put you on MACS (rather long) waiting list for a short-term service funded by the council (this would require a Social Services assessment, for which there might also be a long wait), or
  • start working with you as soon as possible

HOW TO GET THE SERVICE FOR SOMEONE ELSE

  • If you are calling about someone else, it is always best if you have checked with them that they are happy for you to do this, or that you have authority to do so.
  • If this is not possible or appropriate, you may be asked details of your involvement and can explain if you wish to remain anonymous.
  • Call MACS on 664000 & ask to speak to the duty referrals' officer.
  • The referrals' officer will take details from you about the person you are referring and their situation. They will ask you questions to assess whether MACS is the right organisation to help, and the urgency of the need. They will also ask questions to assess whether the person is eligible for a free service or will be paying macs-plus for the service.
  • We will provide your referral with an initial free interview to explain the services available. You could be present at this interview if the potential client feels it would be helpful.
  • Any charges for work will be explained and agreed beforehand. A client is free to cancel the service at any time.
  • If they decide to take up the service, we could either put them on MACS (rather long) waiting list for a short-term service funded by the council (this would require a Social Services assessment, for which there might also be a long wait), or start to work with them as soon as possible

Referral policy and procedures

Referrers might be yourself, a friend, relative, carer, Social Services, a solicitor, GP, a support agency, a landlord, or anyone else. You may be asked details of your involvement and can explain if you wish to remain anonymous.

  • If you are unsure about whether a referral is appropriate or whether our service can help, please feel free to call for an informal chat. You can call macs-plus on 664016 or MACS on 664000. You can give as much or as little information as you are comfortable with.  If we cannot help, we will always try to point you in the direction of someone who can.
